DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke women's basketball team held strong against second-ranked Louisville Wednesday evening in Cameron Indoor Stadium before eventually falling, 73-49, in the ACC opener for both squads.
Duke dropped to 3-1 on the season, while Louisville improved to 5-0.
After entering the contest hitting 57.1 percent from the field in the first quarter, the Blue Devils struggled out of the gate. Duke hit only 6-of-21 field goals for 28.6 percent and trailed 21-12 through 10 minutes.

Jade Williams paced the Blue Devils with six and four points, respectively, in the quarter.
Duke made a run in the second and cut the Cardinals lead to 24-20 on a layup by junior
Onome Akinbode-James, but Louisville went on a 6-0 run itself to increase its lead.
Louisville hit its first five three-point attempts and Duke was limited to 0-of-11 from downtown in the first half as the Blue Devils trailed 35-22 at the break. The Blue Devils hit a season-low 30.6 percent from the field in the half and was led by Williams with eight points.

Vanessa de Jesus, the Blue Devils went on a, 7-2, run in the third quarter that featured de Jesus scoring five straight points, including Duke's first three-pointer of the contest at the 7:02 mark. With 10 minutes remaining, the Blue Devils trailed 49-36.
Williams led the Blue Devils on the night with a season-high 13 points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots, while de Jesus added 11 points, three rebounds and two assists. Akinbode-James pulled down 10 rebounds marking the third time out of the four games to start the season.
For the contest, Duke hit a season-low 36.1 percent from the field and hit only 1-of-16 three-point field goals.
Duke will next travel to Coral Gables, Fla., to face Miami Sunday, Dec. 13. The game will tip at 3 p.m., and be aired on RSN-TV and ACC Network Extra.
