Head coach Robbie Church is in his 20th season with the Blue Devils. GoDuke.com will be looking back over the last 20 years highlighting top moments for Duke women's soccer under the direction of Church.
DURHAM, N.C.— On July 9, 2001, Duke University Athletics hired
Robbie Church as the second head coach for the Blue Devil women's soccer team.
When Church was hired, he commented that it was a lifelong dream of his to become a part of Duke University and its athletic tradition. Church has added many great memories in the Duke Athletics tradition and built the Blue Devils into a national powerhouse since his arrival 20 years ago.
Over these last 20 seasons with the Blue Devils, Church has led Duke to a 251-130-57 record to go along with three NCAA College Cup appearances, 17 NCAA Tournament appearances, two NCAA championship game appearances and captured a pair of ACC Championships.
The 2011 and 2017 ACC Coach of the Year has guided Duke to 84 wins over the last six seasons and guided the Blue Devils to two NCAA College Cup appearances over those six years.
Church has received national recognition for what he has accomplished with the Blue Devils as he earned 2011 Soccer America National Coach of the Year, 2004 NSCAA/adidas South Region Coach of the Year, 2011 Southeast Regional Coach of the Year and his entire staff received United Soccer Coaches National Staff of the Year in 2017. He was elected into the North Carolina Soccer Hall of Fame in 2020.
Over the last 20 years, Church has guided Duke to 12 double-digit win seasons, including two years with 20+ wins. The Blue Devils collected a school-record 23 wins in 2017 as Duke advanced to the NCAA College Cup, while also notching 22 victories in 2011 with an appearance in the NCAA Championship match.
In 2017, Duke produced a perfect 10-0-0 record in the ACC claiming its second ACC Championship in school history.
His student-athletes have been stellar on the pitch and in the classroom earning numerous accolades. Five Blue Devil shave been selected as MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalists, 16 have earned All-America honors, 62 All-ACC selections, two ACC Offensive Players of the Year, one ACC Midfielder of the Year and four ACC Defensive Players of the Year accolades. Seven different Blue Devils have received a total of nine CoSIDA Academic All-America accolades as well.
In his 20th season in 2020-21, the Blue Devils have collected a 7-4-2 overall record and 4-2-2 league mark to go along with a No. 5 national ranking as Duke heads into the spring.
