DAVIDSON, N.C. – By finishing tied for 26th in the Symetra Tour Championship at River Run Country Club this week in Davidson, N.C., Duke 2020 women's golf graduate
Ana Belac moved her earnings to $49,081 on her way to earning her 2021 LPGA Tour card and Symetra Tour Player of the Year accolades.
Belac, who hails from Portoroz, Slovenia, captured six top-20 results across nine starts on the Symetra Tour, including her first professional win at the Carolina Golf Classic a week ago. She closed strong earning $31,949 over her final two tournaments. Â
"Really? You can probably tell how I feel, I did not expect this," said Belac with a smile. "Really cool, I did not see that coming. My goal was to finish in the top of the [Volvik] Race for the Card, getting that top five. Last week when I won, I thought why not get the No. 1; it would be a good accomplishment. I didn't really think about it much. My main goal was just LPGA status. It's a little shocking, yeah."
With her earnings of $49,081, Belac led the Symetra Tour money list and was one of five golfers to earn their LPGA cards for the 2021 campaign. Belac also secured an exemption into the 2020 U.S. Women's Open at Champions Golf Club in Houston from Dec. 10-13. Â
Others finishing in the top five and earning their tour card include Fatima Fernandez Cano, Kim Kaufman, Frida Kinhult and Janie Jackson. Â
Belac will join fellow Blue Devils on the tour Brittany Lang, Leona Maguire, Celine Boutier, Yu Liu and Lindy Duncan. Â
