DURHAM, N.C.—As sure as the sun will come up tomorrow, the latest Duke Outdoor Lacrosse League battle ended yet again with a "game to one." This time it was Peithos coming away with the victory as
Dyson Williams scored the winner in a 14-13 triumph.
Friday's action, the sixth game in the D.O.L.L., started a little slow as both teams got their feet under them. Scoring picked up and action improved as the game wore on. Balanced scoring across the board sent Peithos into the fourth quarter with an 8-7 advantage.
The fourth quarter was action-packed and intense as Peithos and McSallies traded goals in the first 10 minutes. Tied, 10-10, with five minutes to play, there was no letting up from either squad. The teams both added three goals apiece in the final five minutes and it was time for overtime for the second straight week.
Peithos set up its offense in overtime with
Cameron Badour bringing the ball over midfield.
Nakeie Montgomery took a pass, dodged and fed the ball inside. Montgomery's pass was knocked down, but ready and aware, Williams picked up the ground ball and dropped it in the net for the win.
Williams finished the night with three goals and two assists for five points.
Michael Sowers had three goals and a pair of helpers for McSallies. Rookie
Brennan O'Neill chipped in two goals and Badour and Montgomery both had three goals apiece.
Phil Robertson and
JP Basile both notched three points from two goals and an assist.
The D.O.L.L. concludes Friday night with the final game – a winner take all outing. Due to ACC rules and media rights, Duke is not permitted to broadcast the game publicly.
