BLOOMINGTON, Ill.— Following 36 holes of action at the Golfweek Hoosier Amateur, Duke University sophomore
Erica Shepherd holds a two-stroke lead at The Pfau Course at Indiana University.
A native of Greenwood, Ind., Shepherd carded rounds of 75 and 71 Saturday on her way to registering a four-over-par, 146. She leads the Golfweek Collegiate Series event by two strokes over Ashley Kozlowski (148).
After notching one birdie and a first round of 75 on Saturday morning, Shepherd turned in an even-par, 71, in the afternoon to move atop the leaderboard. She putted from off the green from 40 feet for birdie on three to move into red digits early. Shepherd then struggled on holes 8-11 dropping to two-over-par for the day. She started to turn it around on the 455-yard, par five 13th as she rolled in a one-footer for birdie and then drained a 15-footer for birdie on No. 15 on her way to finishing at even par.
Shepherd finished the afternoon round hitting 11 fairways, 12 greens and rolling 30 putts.
Fellow Duke sophomore
Megan Furtney will enter the final round in the top five, after collecting rounds of 77 and 74. She is tied for fourth with a nine-over-par, 151. Furtney, who hails from St. Charles, Ill., collected three birdies in the afternoon to shoot a 74.
In Sunday's final round, Furtney will tee off at 9:27 a.m., while Shepherd will follow at 9:36 a.m.
