Get to Know Blue Devil Signee Anne Chen

DURHAM, N.C.— This past November, the Duke women's golf program added Anne Chen in the early signing period. Prior to arriving on campus in August, GoDuke.com took some time to get to know the product of Sugar Land, Texas.

GoDuke.com: You recently signed your NLOI to attend Duke. How excited are you to wear the blue and white and arrive on campus next fall?
Anne Chen: I am super excited to rep the blue and white and to meet all of my fellow 2024 classmates next fall.
GD: What made you choose Duke?
AC: There are so many reasons to why I chose Duke. I love the amazing and beautiful campus that I will get to walk around on everyday and the long standing tradition that Duke upholds. The moment I first stepped onto Duke's campus, I could picture myself cheering on the Blue Devils in the Cameron Stadium and walking to class underneath Duke's pristine Chapel. I felt so welcomed and received so much support from Coach Brooks, Coach Jon and the team.
GD: Tell us a little about your golf game and what you hope to bring to the squad in 2019-20?
AC: My favorite parts about my golf game are my approach shots from 100 yards in and being able to recover from tough areas around the green. I am super excited to bring my strong mental game, humor and energetic spirit to the team!
GD: What former Duke golfers have you idolized growing up?
AC: I grew up looking up to Brittany Lang when she won the 2016 U.S. Women's Open and Virginia Elena Carta. Even though Virginia graduated last year, I remember watching her win the 2016 NCAA Individual championship on television. The first time I met her was on my unofficial visit to Duke in 2017 and I was so excited to meet and talk with her.
GD: What still remains on your bucket list of things to do before college?
AC: Before I head to college next fall, I want to go surfing with some friends and travel around Europe!

Best advice you have ever received? The best advice I've received is to focus on one shot at the time and not to worry about the outcome. There will always be good and bad shots in the game of golf, but to continue playing as if you are still in it to win it!
Favorite TV show growing up? My favorite tv show growing up was The Suite Life of Zack & Cody
Favorite vacation spot? My favorite vacation spot is on the beach in Hawaii
One place you would like to travel to? One place I would like to travel is Rome, Italy
Do you have any pre-round rituals? I eat the same breakfast every time and when I get to the range I hit the same clubs. Before I tee off, I must make three five footers in a row before I can leave the practice putting green
Beach or mountains? The beach!
Do you have any relatives involved in athletics? My dad plays tennis

Favorite type of ice cream? My favorite type of ice cream is Strawberry and Chocolate Mint
