DURHAM, N.C. – The sophomore duo of
Mackenzie Cole and
Lily Cooper collected All-ACC Academic Team honors for the 2019 campaign, which was announced by the league office Wednesday.
A constant in Duke's lineup throughout the season, Cole racked up 446 digs for a 4.02 dig/set average. The libero from Oakdale, N.Y., had 25 contests with 10 or more digs, including a season-high 28 in Duke's five-set thriller against NC State. She registered three contests with 20 or more digs to rank fourth in the ACC and added 27 service aces. Additionally, Cole dished 124 assists to rank fourth on the team.
As a 6-5 middle blocker, Cooper was a force at the net. The sophomore added 125 blocks this season for a 1.29 block/set average. Not only did Cooper lead the team in blocks, but she ranked fifth in the conference to help the Blue Devils rank fifth as a team. The Wildwood, Mo., native tallied a whopping 16 blocks in Duke's three matches at the Hofstra Invitational and knocked down 147 kills (1.52 kills/set) to rank fifth on the team.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
