DURHAM, N.C. – The spring semester is underway as head coach
Robbie Church and the Duke women's soccer program are excited to announce the 2020 spring schedule as the Blue Devils begin preparations for the fall season.
Duke will take part in five exhibitions against outside competition in its fall slate. The Blue Devils will face four Division I opponents—three of which advanced to the 2019 NCAA Tournament, along with one professional team from the NWSL across the spring.
"We have an unbelievable spring schedule," said Church. "It's really exciting to live in such a great soccer area so we're able to get quality teams to play to replicate the fall schedule. We have four top Division I program including three that went to the NCAA Tournament and North Carolina that went to the finals."
Duke travels to Columbia in its first matchup of the spring to face South Carolina on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 1 p.m. Following the matchup with the Gamecocks, the Blue Devils will travel to Richmond, Va., for a neutral-site matchup with ACC foe Virginia at the Jefferson Cup.
Duke's third matchup of the spring pits the Blue Devils against Tobacco Road rival North Carolina on Saturday, March 28. The Blue Devils and Tar Heels are scheduled for a doubleheader, which will feature games between both the women's squad and the men's squad, kicking off at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., respectively, on the 751 fields on Duke's campus.
The Blue Devils will take on the reigning champions of the National Women's Soccer League in their fourth match of the spring, as the team is set to face the North Carolina Courage on Thursday, April 2 at 5 p.m., in Cary, N.C.
"Being able to play the two-time NWSL champions in the North Carolina Courage is a great experience for our players," Church added. "It exposes our players to the professionalism of the pro teams, and it also exposes our players to the pros, letting them see how they play against their teams. I think it's a win-win situation for both groups."
Duke will wrap up its spring slate one week later in Winston-Salem, N.C., as the squad takes on another ACC foe in Wake Forest, at 6 p.m., in the final match of the schedule.
The Blue Devils took the practice field for the first time this spring earlier this week, as the team held its fitness test Monday afternoon on the 751 fields. Duke is set to continue its spring program through mid-April as the team continues to prepare for the fall season.
