DURHAM, N.C. – Duke women's tennis head coach
Jamie Ashworth announced the addition of
William O'Connell to the Blue Devil coaching staff on Friday. O'Connell will serve as a volunteer assistant coach for the fifth-ranked Blue Devils.

A product of Fiji, O'Connell is an International Tennis Federation (ITF) advanced coach who has worked with performance juniors and professional players in the United States, Fiji, Australia, Spain, India and the United Kingdom.
In addition to his work with the ITF, O'Connell has three years of coaching at the collegiate level where he was a head coach under the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and a Division I assistant coach at Presbyterian College.
O'Connell has six years of collegiate tennis playing experience under his belt that includes time with New Mexico Military Institute, Presbyterian College and the University of Nottingham.
He also spent time with Tennis Fiji where he was a coach, player and executive member. At Tennis Fiji, he represented Pacific Oceania in multiple Asia Oceania Zone Group III Davis Cups and was a regional competition multi-medalist representing Fiji. As a committee member since 2016, he served as the national delegate for the 2019 US Open and the 2018 ITF Annual General Meeting (AGM).
The fifth-ranked Blue Devils will open the 2020 slate Tuesday, Jan. 14 at Grand Canyon.
