DURHAM, N.C. – The 2019-20 Duke women's tennis schedule was announced Thursday by head coach
Jamie Ashworth. The Blue Devils are slated to compete in six events throughout the fall season prior to the start of dual match play in January.
Duke is slated to face off against seven teams ranked in the final spring 2019 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) top-25 rankings including North Carolina (No. 3), NC State (No. 11), Florida State (No. 15), Miami (No. 20), Virginia (No. 21), Wake Forest (No. 23) and Ohio State (No. 25).
Duke opens the fall campaign at the Furman Invitational Sept. 20-22 in Greenville, S.C., before traveling across the country to the Malibu Invitational in Malibu, Calif., Oct. 2-7. The Blue Devils will also compete at ITA All-Americans in Tulsa, Okla., Oct. 5-12 at the same time. Duke will return to the state of North Carolina for the ITA Regionals in Winston-Salem Oct. 24-28 and the Kitty Harrison Invitational Nov. 1-3 in Chapel Hill before concluding the fall slate at the ITA Fall Nationals in Newport Beach, Calif., Nov. 6-10.
Following the new year, Duke will open the 2020 slate Jan. 14 in Phoenix, Ariz., against Grand Canyon University before welcoming Elon Jan. 22 to Durham.
Duke will once again serve as a host site for the ITA Kickoff Weekend as Kansas State, Mississippi State and Tulsa will compete in Sheffield Indoor Stadium Jan. 25-26, before closing out January in Columbus, Ohio, at Ohio State Jan. 31.
The Blue Devils will be on the road for much of the month of February with four road trips beginning with Illinois Feb. 2, and a potential trip to Chicago for the ITA National Team Indoors event Feb. 7-10. Duke will travel to the northeast to begin ACC competition at Boston College Feb. 21 and Syracuse Feb. 23 before welcoming Virginia Tech Feb. 28 in Durham.
Duke will host six events in the month of March as the squad welcomes William & Mary (March 1), Notre Dame (March 13), Clemson (March 15), Louisville (March 20), Florida State (March 22) and North Carolina (March 25). The Blue Devils will then travel to Atlanta, Ga., for a March 29 matchup with Georgia Tech.
The final month of the regular season begins with a short trip to Winston-Salem April 3, Charlottesville April 5 and Raleigh April 8 before closing out the regular season against Miami in Durham on April 10.
Postseason for Duke begins with the ACC Tournament scheduled for April 15-20 in Rome, Georgia.
Last season, Duke posted an overall record of 27-4 and went 13-1 in conference play. The 2019 campaign featured Duke in the finals of the ACC Championship and the semifinals of the NCAA Team Championship and the ITA Indoor National Championships.
