DURHAM, N.C. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced its 2019 Division I Preseason Rankings Tuesday as three Duke women's tennis players were tabbed to the national list.
Headlining the Blue Devils is junior
Kelly Chen who enters the 2019-20 campaign as the fifth singles player in the nation. Senior
Meible Chi checked in at No. 18 while Chen earned a second spot with sophomore
Margaryta Bilokin on the doubles list at No. 41.
Chen ended her sophomore year in the semifinals of the NCAA Singles Championship in Orlando, Fla., and compiled a 26-5 overall record in the spring. She defeated 18 ranked opponents including three higher ranked foes during her NCAA run and won 12 consecutive matches as a solid player in Duke's lineup at No. 2 and No. 3. Chen was named an ITA All-American following her successful 2019 season.
Chi was a constant on Duke's No. 2 court all season and went 15-3 last spring and 6-3 versus nationally ranked foes. The Weston, Fla., native entered last fall ranked No. 31 before moving up to No. 10 in the country at the beginning of the spring slate and reached the highest ranking of No. 8.
Chen and Bilokin were selected No. 42 on the doubles list this fall. Chen had success last spring with an 18-14 overall record that included five victories over nationally ranked players while Bilokin went 16-5 and an impressive 9-1 in conference play.
Duke will open the 2019 fall slate September 20-22 at the Furman Invitational in Greenville, S.C.
