AUSTIN, Texas – All four Duke NCAA qualifiers were in action Friday on the third day of competition at the NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships, held at the University of Texas' Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center.
Up first was junior Miles Williams, who took 37th in the 200-yard freestyle preliminaries at 1:35.00. Senior Max St. George followed in the 100 backstroke preliminaries, clocking 46.49 for 32nd.
A day after capturing All-America honors in one-meter diving, junior Nathaniel Hernandez and senior Evan Moretti were back on the springboards in the three-meter preliminaries. Moretti surpassed the 60-point mark twice in the opening two rounds of the preliminary and ended the day 25th with a total award of 322.50. Hernandez, a first team All-American Thursday night on the one-meter board, placed 39th Friday with 289.85 points.
Behind the All-America performances by Hernandez and Moretti, the Blue Devil men enter the final day of the meet tied for 27th in the team standings with 17 points. The NCAA Championships conclude Saturday with the 1,650 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, platform diving and the 400 freestyle relay. Preliminaries get underway at 11 a.m. ET and finals at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN3.
