DURHAM, N.C. – Four Duke men's tennis student-athletes will compete in the Wake Forest Invitational this weekend, Nov. 8-10, in Winston Salem, N.C.
Seniors
Spencer Furman and
Samir Agadi and freshmen
Andrew Zhang and
Omni Kumar will represent the Blue Devils in competition this weekend.
The Wake Forest Invitational will be the first matches this fall for Agadi and Furman.
Zhang holds a 9-2 record in singles this fall. The Bloomfield Hills, Mich., native has been impressive for the Blue Devils with a 1-1 record against ranked opponents. In his most recent outing, Zhang advanced the quarterfinals in singles and semifinals in doubles of the ITA Carolina Regional.
Kumar is in his first season with the Blue Devils. He holds a 2-3 record during the fall season in singles. The Irvine, Calif., native made a run through the consolation draw at the Bonk Invitational but fell in the consolation final.
In the opening round in Winston Salem, Zhang is in the A1 singles draw, Furman and Kumar are in the A2 singles draw and Agadi will play in the F singles draw. Zhang takes the court against Antoine Sanchez of Stetson at 11:30 a.m. Friday morning. Kumar faces Rafael Tosetto (Tennessee Tech) at 12:30 a.m. while Furman plays Justin Barki of Princeton at the same time. Agadi also takes the court at 12:30 a.m., going against Charles Parry of Wake Forest.
Duke will partner up Furman/Zhang and Agadi/Kumar in doubles. Furman and Zhang will take on Linus Bergevi and Sanchez (Stetson) at 9:30 a.m. in the A3 doubles draw. Agadi and Kumar face William Clark and Sam Kavarana of Davidson at 10:00 a.m.
