NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. – The Duke women's tennis team kicked off the first day at the 2019 ITA Fall National Championships with all three Blue Devils advancing to the round of 32 in the singles main draw in Newport Beach, Calif.
Rookie
Chloe Beck was first to finish Wednesday for Duke in the round of 64 by defeating LSU's Paris Corley 6-1, 6-7 (8), 7-5 in a three-set decision. With the win, Beck improves to 10-2 this fall.
Junior
Kelly Chen, who is ranked No. 5 by the ITA, had a big afternoon and secured a 6-0, 6-1 victory over No. 22 Solymar Colling of San Diego before senior
Meible Chi advanced to the round of 32 as well. No. 18 Chi took down Hawaii's No. 95 Bojana Markovic 6-3, 6-2. With the wins, Chen is now 12-4 overall and 3-3 versus nationally-ranked opponents while Chi elevates to 6-2 and 3-2 against ranked foes.
In the round of 32 Thursday, Beck will face No. 12 Cameron Morra of North Carolina, Chen will take on No. 98 Rebeka Stolmar (UCF) and Chi will go against Lexi Ryngler (Texas).
