DURHAM, N.C. – Duke redshirt sophomore return specialistDamond Philyaw-Johnson earned ACC Player of the Week honors following his record-setting performance against Wake Forest last week.
Philyaw-Johnson honor gives Duke its fifth weekly award recognition of the season after AJ Reed,  Koby Quansah, Jack Wohlabaugh and Victor Dimukeje were also acknowledged earlier in the year.
Â
Philyaw-Johnson returned five kickoffs for 251 yards and two TDs to equal the NCAA single-game record for kickoff returns for TDs against the Demon Deacons. He also established new school single-game standards for kickoff return yards, kickoff return average (50.20) and kickoff returns for TDs and became just the second player in ACC history with multiple kickoff returns for TDs in a single game, joining Clemson's Justin Miller who logged a pair of returns for scores against Florida State in 2004.
Â
The Pensacola, Fla., native, who is one of three players in Duke history with multiple kickoff returns for TDs in a season, enters this week ranking fourth nationally in kickoff return average (32.64) and is on pace to break the school single-season standard currently held by DeVon Edwards (30.21 in 2013). Philyaw-Johnson and Virginia's Joe Reed are the only two players in the ACC with multiple kickoff returns for touchdowns this season.
The ACC's other weekly honors included Louisville's Micale Cunningham (quarterback), Javian Hawkins (running back and co-rookie); Wake Forest's Kendall Hinton (receiver) and Nathan Gilliam (offensive line); Georgia Tech's Jordan Domineck (defensive line) and James Graham (co-rookie); Virginia Tech's Rayshard Ashby (linebacker); and Virginia's De'Vante Cross (defensive back).

The Blue Devils return to action Saturday at 3:30 p.m. when they welcome Miami to Wallace Wade Stadium. The game will be televised by ESPN2.
