MALIBU, Calif. – Members of the Duke women's tennis team kicked off the Women's Collegiate Invitational Thursday evening in Malibu, Calif.
The Blue Devils went 1-1 in doubles play to start the morning as No. 41

Margaryta Bilokin defeated Solymar Colling/Elizabeth Goldsmith of San Diego 6-2.

Summer Dvorak were unable to secure the upset and fell to No. 10 Michaela Gordon/Emily Arbuthnott of Stanford, 6-4.
Top-seeded and No. 5 Chen started Duke off on a high note in singles as she defeated Vanderbilt's Amanda Meyer 6-1, 6-2 before Dvorak defeated Samantha Alicea of Arizona State 6-1, 6-3. Zhao was next to finish for Duke with a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Andrea Garcia of Florida State.
In the singles round of 32, Alexandra Vagramov of UCLA defeated Bilokin 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 and Chen fell to Haley Giavara (Cal) 6-3, 3-6, 1-6.
Duke will return to competition Friday in California.
