WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Members of the Duke women's tennis team opened up the first day at the ITA Regional Championships in Winston-Salem, N.C., as junior
Ema Lazic secured two singles victories.
In the qualifying singles bracket, Lazic first defeated Zaina Nait Omar of Clemson 7-6 (2), 2-6, 7-5 this morning before going on to down Gardner-Webb's Teodora Ristic 0-6, 6-3, 6-4 in three sets.
With the victories, Lazic advanced out of the qualifying round and into the singles main draw.
In main draw doubles, the Duke duo of
Margaryta Bilokin/
Hannah Zhao fell to Rafaela Santos/Alisa Soloveva of Winthrop, 8-1, before defeating Emily Elliot/Jordan Strickland of Western Carolina, 8-6, in a consolation match.
Also in doubles Thursday was
Chloe Beck/
Kelly Chen and
Meible Chi/
Summer Dvorak. Beck/Chen defeated NC State's Lexi Keberle/Liz Norman (8-1) while Chi/Dvorak took down Manon Delsol/Valentine Limauge of Gardner-Webb (8-1).
Competition in Winston-Salem will continue Friday with both singles and doubles.
