NEWPORT, R.I. - Former men's tennis player Alex Bose competed in last weeks prestigious USTA National Grasscourt Championships at the Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, R.I..
In the field of over 64 of the top NCAA collegiate, as well as current and former ATP Tour players, Bose reached the finals in both the men's singles and doubles competition. For his play, he earned the prestigious USTA silver ball trophy in each division.
During the singles portion of the event, Bose defeated the top seed Matthew Mendez 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 in the semifinals.
Bose lettered for the Blue Devils in 2001 and 2002. While in Durham, he won the 2001 ACC Singles Flight No. 5 championship and earned a trio of ACC Academic Honor Roll selections. His 32 singles wins as a freshman are tied for the sixth most by a rookie in program history.
A Duke University graduate, Bose, a former top world ranked junior and ATP tour player, is founder of Bose Tennis and runs tennis programs at Cypresswood Golf and Country Club in Winter Haven, Fla.
