JAPAN – Following four rounds of action at the 2018 Toyota Junior Golf World Cup in Japan, Duke University freshman Gina Kim and the United States placed fifth overall at the Ghukyo Golf Club Ishino Course.
The United States collected scores of 145, 148, 144 and 142 over four days to finish with a 579, which was only one shot out of third place. Japan carded a 22-under-par, 554, to take the top honors. Korea (564) was second, while Canada (578) and Sweden (578) were tied for third.
Individually, Kim placed 10th overall and was the second-highest finisher for the U.S. A native of Chapel Hill, N.C., Kim turned in rounds of 73, 74, 73 and 72 to finish four-over, 292. She notched 12 birdies over the four days and closed the week with an even-par, 72. In the final round, Kim made the turn at one-under, 35, with birdies on No. 1, No. 5 and No. 9. She reached two-under-par with a birdie on No. 12, but had back-to-back bogeys on No. 13 and No. 14 to fall back to even.
Japan's Yuka Yasuda and Korea's Lee Sujeong each carded a 10-under, 278, to tie for first, individually. Other United States finishers were Sadie Englemann (8th, 288) and Hailee Cooper (T12th, 295).
