SURPRISE, Ariz. – Members of the Duke women's tennis team continued action Thursday at the 2018 Oracle ITA Fall National Championships at the Surprise Tennis and Racquet Complex in Surprise, Ariz., as junior Meible Chi advanced to the Singles Main Draw Round of 16.
Chi, tabbed No. 31 in the ITA preseason rankings, defeated Wisconsin's Sara Castellano (6-4, 6-2) Thursday afternoon in the round of 32. Chi is now 11-2 overall this fall.
Sophomore Kelly Chen's time in Arizona came to an end as she fell to No. 30 Christina Rosca of Vanderbilt (6-4, 3-6, 4-6) in the round of 32. Chen, ranked No. 12, falls to 6-2 for the fall slate.
Chi will face the second-ranked player in the nation in Makenna Jones of North Carolina Friday in the round of 16. This will be a Blue Devil's second time taking on Jones this fall after freshman Maria Mateas defeated Jones (6-1, 6-4) in semifinal action at the ITA All-American Championships.
