Walking the Fairways with Gina Kim

DURHAM, N.C.— In her first season with the Blue Devils, Gina Kim has competed in all three tournaments in 2018-19. She owns a 73.78 stroke average in her short career, including three rounds of even or under par. The rookie out of Chapel Hill, N.C., took time out to answer some questions for GoDuke.com recently.

GoDuke.com: You have been in college for almost two months. How has it been so far?
Gina Kim: Over the past two months, college has been exciting and amazing for me. It took some time to adjust but I'm having a great time with my classes and traveling with team!

GD: With you being from Chapel Hill, N.C., have you been able to see your family often?
GK: With me living so close to Duke, I have been able to see my family often (about every weekend).

GD: Tell us about your busy summer you had. Did you have a favorite thing you did?
GK: My summer was extremely busy. I played in a tournament almost every week in July including the US Junior Girls Junior, Canadian Women's Amateur, and the North and South Amateur. My favorite moment was being able to look around Vancouver a bit before the tournament started. A very beautiful city!

GD: What have you enjoyed the most about being a part of the Duke women's golf program in the short time so far?
GK: Something I enjoy the most with the team is being able to hang out in our free time. We had dinner over the weekend and fall break. We also went to get ice cream even at UNC! We are planning to do something fun over off season and maybe go on a small trip for team bonding!

Do you have any pre-round rituals? I always say a prayer before I tee off
Best class you've taken at Duke and why? Hot Topics in Health because the basketball players are extremely funny in class and I met friends in there who are student athletes like me.
