DURHAM, N.C. ? Missy West, a 2001 Duke University graduate and member of the Blue Devil women's basketball team, was inducted into the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) National High School Hall of Fame over the weekend at the Rhode Island Convention Center in Providence, Rhode Island.
West, a three-sport standout athlete at Franklin Academy who set numerous records in basketball, softball and soccer, was among 11 individuals who were inducted July 2.
In basketball, West averaged 29.0 points per game and was named Miss Basketball in New York as a senior. She scored 2,605 points and helped her team to the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Section 10 title. West scored a career-high 53 points in a game during her senior campaign.
West won 64 games as a pitcher in softball, while registering 15 no-hitters and two perfect games, and led her squad to the NYSPHSAA state championship. She was chosen Player of the Year in New York and was selected for one All-America team.? West struck out 212 of the 473 batters she faced as a senior and allowed only 26 hits. ?
On the pitch, West scored 63 goals and added 15 assists during her high school career.? West was selected most valuable player of the Northern Athletic Conference twice and earned third team all-state honors as a junior and senior.
West was a two-time winner of the Jan Reitz Award, which is the top award for a female athlete in Section 10 of the NYSPHSAA. She also was inducted into the Franklin Academy/St. Joseph's Academy Athletic Hall of Fame in 2006, the New York State Softball Hall of Fame in 2015 and the NYSPHSAA Hall of Fame in 2016.
On Oct. 7, West will be one of the inaugural 10 members of the newly-formed North Country Hall of Fame.
During her Duke career, West helped lead the Blue Devils to their first NCAA Final Four in 1999 and guided Duke to its first ACC Championship in 2000.? The Malone, N.Y., product appeared in 96 career games and was a part of three ACC regular season championships as well. ?
