DURHAM, N.C. – Duke women's basketball alumna Sue Gordon has been nominated by United States President Donald Trump to be the new Principal Deputy Director of National Intelligence, which was announced recently.
Gordon, then Sue Monroe, is the only three-time captain in Duke women's basketball history and competed with the Blue Devils from 1976 through 1980.
Prior to her nomination, Gordon served as the Deputy Director of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) since 2015. She had spent more than 25 years as a career officer at the CIA before moving on to the NGA.
In her new role as the Principal Deputy Director of National Intelligence, Gordon will help lead intelligence integration and will find innovative approaches to solve challenges.
During her U.S. Senate Select Committee hearing on Intelligence on Wednesday, July 19, fellow Duke women's basketball teammates Barb Krause, Margo Walsh Riddle and Liz Bulger Ross were there to show their support along with family.
In her introduction during her hearing, she thanked her Blue Devil teammates, “And my Duke Basketball teammates who taught me how to be depended upon, and how to depend on others.”
She was also able to add this statement on the Duke program as well, “Yes, Duke women's basketball will win a national championship one day.”
