Gibbons Selected to U.S. U-23 National Team

DURHAM, N.C. – Recent Duke University graduate Christina Gibbons was one of 22 players selected to represent the U.S. Under-23 Women's National Team that will compete in the 2017 Women's U-23 Open Nordic Tournament in Sweden.
The U.S. U-23 squad will face Norway on June 6 in Karlstad, England June 9 in Mallbacken and Sweden June 12 in Mallbacken.
Among the 22 players selected, seven are from NWSL teams, 12 from the college ranks and three who are still playing youth club.
Gibbons, who is currently competing with the FC Kansas City of the NWSL, was also part of the U-23 team that traveled to La Manga, Spain in March for a four-nation tournament. She started two of the three games and wore the captain's armband against England.
A native of Raleigh, N.C., Gibbons has started six of the seven matches played for FC Kansas City on the season. She has logged 553 minutes on defense.
The U.S. team will depart for Sweden on June 1, although Gibbons is expected to be available for selection on Saturday, June 3rd in North Carolina as FC Kansas City faces the N.C. Courage at 3:30 p.m. ET in the Lifetime NWSL Game of the Week.
