DURHAM, N.C.—Duke University rookie goalkeeper Will Pulisic was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Week following his standout performance in the shutout at No. 12 Notre Dame Friday. Pulisic finished the night with seven saves to record his sixth shutout of the season.
Pulisic was outstanding in the scoreless draw against the Fighting Irish. The Mechanicsville, Va., native posted seven saves overall with his final two coming on a penalty kick and an ensuing rebound. With time winding down into the 110th minute, Pulisic dove to his left and stopped Jon Gallagher's penalty kick and then made a beauty of a kick save on the rebound to solidify the shutout.
Pulisic has six shutouts on the year to rank second in the ACC. He is averaging 6.67 saves per game in his last three games and has the most shutouts by a Duke goalie since 2013. His .765 save percentage ranks second in the conference and eighth among freshman keepers nationally.
The Blue Devils return to the field Tuesday night for their final regular season non-conference game against Delaware. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m., on ACC Network Extra.
