Set Em Up, Shut Em Down…
There have been a number of storylines to this year's Duke women's soccer squad, but one of the best has been the play of the Blue Devil defense. On the year, Duke has allowed just seven goals, outscoring opponents 33-7, and has posted nine total shutouts. Over the last 10 matches, the Blue Devils have outscored foes 24-3 and shut out eight opponents, including picking up four ranked victories. Duke leads the ACC with a .643 shutout percentage and a .494 goals against average, which stand 14th and 15th in the NCAA, respectively. The Blue Devils have kept the performance going strong through ACC play, as they have earned clean sheets against five of their six conference opponents. That mark is tied for the fifth most in program history.
Goals On Goals On Goals…
The Blue Devils have also been a dominant threat on the attack thanks to the growing number of threats across the field. On the year, Duke has accumulated 33 goals, tops in the ACC and 20th in the nation and has scored multiple goals in 12 of its 14 matches so far this year. A total of nine Blue Devils have scored this year, showing the array of weapons head coach Robbie Church has at his disposal, led by senior Imani Dorsey (9 goals) and junior Kayla McCoy (7 goals).
Dorsey A Senior CLASS Finalist…
Duke senior Imani Dorsey was selected as one of 10 finalists for the prestigious Senior CLASS award. The winner, selected through a combo of media, coach and fan voting, will be announced in December. Dorsey is the only women's soccer representative from the ACC to be selected as a finalist for the award.
DeBree And Stevens Reeling In The Awards…
After another flawless week on the field, a pair of Blue Devils pulled in hardware, as Schuyler DeBree earned ACC Co-Defensive Player of the Week honors and Ella Stevens was named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Week. It was the first conference honor of DeBree's career and the second for a Blue Devil this season, as EJ Proctor was named ACC Defensive Player of the Week earlier this season. This is the second honor for Stevens, who was tabbed to TopDrawerSoccer.com's Third Team Preseason Best XI on Aug. 14. She is the second Blue Devil to land on the team this year, as Imani Dorsey earned the honor three-straight weeks from Sept. 5 – 19.
Proctor Nearly Flawless Between The Posts…
It was business as usual for senior EJ Proctor this past week, as she earned another pair of shutouts en route to leading the Blue Devils to their 13th-straight victory. She has been solely responsible for seven of Duke's nine shutouts this year, moving her career total to 28, which is two behind Tara Campbell (2009-12) for third most shutouts in school history.
On the year, Proctor is tops in the ACC in shutouts (7) and goals against average (.514), while standing 17th and 18th in the nation, respectively.
Top Five, Top Five, Top Five…
Duke continues to be a mainstay in the top five of all polls heading into the ninth week of play. The Blue Devils stayed put at No. 4 in all major polls and have been ranked in the top five in all three for four-straight weeks.
A Look At The RPI…
The first official NCAA women's soccer RPI was released three weeks ago, with Duke opening the year at No. 6. That is the highest Duke has begun a season in the RPI since starting out at No. 3 in the first rankings of 2011. Duke held strong at No. 4 in the latest rankings. Miami entered the weekend ranked 163rd.
