
Duke Continues Fall Action in Cary

Cary, N.C. – The Duke men's tennis team turned in a solid Saturday at the Duke James Bonk Invite at the Cary Tennis Complex. The Blue Devils earned one doubles win and two singles triumphs.
The Blue Devils began Saturday with singles action, tallying two victories. The white draw had sophomore Catalin Mateas fall to Elon's Felipe Sarrasague 7-6 (1), 6-2. Mateas will take on Florida's Joshua Wardell Sunday at 10 a.m. Classmate Vincent Lin will face Georgiy Malyshev of N.C. State after suffering a tough 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-4 loss to Jack Findell-Hopkins.
The blue draw was highlighted by freshman Nick Stachowiak, who came back to defeat Salvador Mijares from Elon 5-7, 6-2, 6-1. Stachowiak will take on Maksim Kan of Wake Forest on Sunday. Fellow rookie Robert Levine will battle Mijares Sunday after falling to Kan by a 3-6, 6-1 RET. final.
The Blue Devils wrapped up singles action in the blue draw with senior TJ Pura. After falling to Jordan Belga 6-1, 6-4 from Florida in the semifinals, Pura will face Brandon Laubser from Auburn Sunday at 10 a.m. to battle for third place.
The black draw was highlighted by junior Andrew DeJoy defeating Carlos Sala of Radford 5-7, 6-4, 6-2. DeJoy will play Florida's Stephen Madonia.
Doubles action concluded Saturday with the duo of Levine and Stachowiak notching a win in the consolation finals of the white draw, defeating Chad Kissell and Dave Bacalla of Valparaiso, 8-4.
In the blue draw, the Lin/Mateas and Lapidus/Pura pairs tallied two combined losses in the white draw. Lin and Mateas suffered a 8-7 (2) loss to Findel-Hawkins and Jonathan Deautriell of UNF, while Lapidus and Pura battled against Sean Burnette and Ivan Savelijic for consolation third and fell 8-6.
The Duke James Bonk Invite will wrap up Sunday with singles action at 10 a.m.
