DURHAM, N.C.— As head coach
Joanne P. McCallie and the Duke women's basketball program wrapped up summer workouts last week, three captains were chosen by a vote of the team members. Senior
Oderah Chidom, redshirt junior
Rebecca Greenwell and junior transfer
Lexie Brown will guide the squad in 2016-17.
Chidom closed her junior season in a big way as she averaged 14.0 points, 7.6 rebounds, 2.6 blocks and 1.5 assists over the final eight contests. She started 25 games and collected back-to-back career highs of 20 points against North Carolina and Virginia. A 6-4 native of Oakland, Calif., Chidom posted two double-doubles on the season. She averaged 14.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, 2.0 blocks and 1.0 assists in two games of the ACC Tournament in 2016.
A product of Owensboro, Ky., Greenwell averaged 15.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.5 steals, while earning All-ACC second team accolades. One of the top three-point shooters in the nation, Greenwell was listed on the USBWA, Naismith and Wooden Award lists for National Player of the Year. The 6-1 guard already ranks eighth on Duke's all-time three-pointers made charts with 145. Greenwell ranked in the top 10 of four different ACC categories along with 20th in rebounding a year ago.
One of the top guards in the nation, Brown will suit up for the Blue Devils this season, after two outstanding years at Maryland. A 5-9 guard from Suwanee, Ga., Brown was a 2015 Associated Press Third Team All-America, All-Big Ten First Team, All-Big Ten Defensive Team and the Big Ten Tournament Most Outstanding Player as a sophomore. She averaged 13.3 points, 4.5 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 2.2 steals, while draining 69 three-pointers. In two years she hit 120 treys, while averaging 11.8 points at Maryland.
