DURHAM, N.C. – Former Duke guard Kyrie Irving scored a playoff career-high 41 points in Game 5 of the NBA Finals as the Cleveland Cavaliers forced Game 6 with a 112-97 win over the Golden State Warriors on Monday evening.
Irving scored his 41 points on 17-of-24 (70.8 FG%) shooting from the field, including knocking down 5-of-7 three-point attempts. The performance marked Irving's third straight game of at least 30 points after scoring 30 points in Game 3 and 34 points in Game 4, respectively. Irving added six assists and three rebounds in the Cavs' Game 5 victory.
Irving is averaging 25.3 points per game during the playoffs, including 28.2 points per game through five games of the NBA Finals.
Cleveland forward LeBron James also scored 41 points in the Game 5 win, marking the first time a pair of teammates went for 40-plus points in the same NBA Finals game.
