ATLANTA – Duke opened competition at the 2016 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships this morning at the McAuley Aquatic Center in Atlanta.
Junior James Peek got the Blue Devils started with a top-30 finish in the 50-yard freestyle preliminaries. The Forest Row, Sussex, England native placed two spots higher than his entry seed, clocking 19.61 to come in 28th.
Later in the morning, Peek joined teammates Kaz Takabayashi, Peter Kropp and Michael Miller on Duke's 400 medley relay. The quartet turned in a time of 3:09.97 after Takabayashi led off with a 47.80 100 backstroke split. The performance ranked the relay 20th in the field.
The 2016 NCAA Championships resume Friday at 10 a.m. with preliminaries of the 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke and 200 medley relay. Kropp will represent the Blue Devils in the 100 breaststroke while freshman Evan Moretti will compete in the 3-meter springboard diving preliminaries, which begin at 12 p.m. Duke is seeded 15th in the 200 medley relay.
