DURHAM, N.C. -- The opening of Blue Devil Tower at Wallace Wade Stadium for the start of the 2016 football season added a gleaming jewel to the ever-changing landscape of the Duke athletics campus. Several more new facility gems are being showcased as the 2016-17 basketball campaign gets underway.
Fans attending Countdown to Craziness and the Blue Devils' two exhibition contests had the chance to explore the new Rubenstein Pavilion, the Cameron Indoor Stadium addition that's been under construction over the past year. The two-story structure features an expanded ground-floor entrance lobby loaded with memorabilia, history and interactive displays, topped by the new Champions Club on the concourse level. The Champions Club is a premium amenities space for entertaining qualified donors and guests at Duke basketball games.
The Cameron addition is named for David Rubenstein, now serving his final year as chairman of the Duke Board of Trustees. A 1970 Duke grad and long-time benefactor, he donated $10 million to Duke athletics during the Duke Forward campaign.
The university also opened the new Johnson Family Team Store the week before the basketball season-opener. It is located in the Scott Family Athletics Performance Center across Tribull plaza from Cameron Indoor. The 4,200 square foot space features official Nike apparel and is open seven days a week, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday, 1:00-5:00 p.m. on Sunday, and before and after all home football and basketball games.
