About the Mountaineer Duals
Duke starts the Mountaineer Duals with the No. 15 Beavers at 12 p.m., and will finish the day against Belmont Abbey at 2 p.m. Appalachian State will wrestle Belmont Abbey first and then Oregon State at the same times. Gates open at 11 a.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $3 for youth.
Series Histories
Duke and Oregon State will be wrestling for the first time in the programs' histories. The Blue Devils are 1-2 all-time against Pac-12 teams, besting Cal Poly last season. This is the third different Pac-12 team Duke has wrestled under head coach Glen Lanham. Belmont Abbey is a Division II school from Belmont, N.C., and Duke is facing the Crusaders for the first time.
About Duke
The Blue Devils had a strong start to the 2016-17 campaign, bringing home a pair of titles from the Southeast Open last weekend. Connor Bass (174) and Jacob Kasper (HWT) both scored upsets over top-20 opponents to win their brackets, while Zach Finesilver (141) took fourth overall. Both of Finesilver's losses came against top-15 foes, including the narrow 4-3 decision to No. 5 Joey Ward in the third-place bout. The dual will be the first for Cole Baumgartner in a Blue Devil singlet and the first dual start for Joey Abbate, Tyler Patrick and Xaviel Ramos since the 2014-15 season. The match against the 15th-ranked Beavers will be the first of two ranked opponents for Duke in the month of November.
