DURHAM, N.C. – The day before the Duke Football team opens its 2015 home season, the university dedicated Brooks Field at Wallace Wade Stadium. Duke University alumnus Steve Brooks and his wife, Eileen, committed $13 million to the Duke Athletics Department and the Duke Board of Trustees approved the recommendation that the football field be renamed in their honor.
On Friday, the Brooks family and a group of invited guests stood on Brooks Field at Wallace Wade Stadium for the dedication and presentation of a commemorative game ball to the Brooks family. Duke President Richard H. Brodhead, Vice President and Director of Duke Athletics Dr. Kevin White and head football coach David Cutcliffe all spoke at the event.
The Brooks family has a long history of giving to Duke, including support for the Brooks Practice Facility and Brooks Building for Duke Football. With their latest gift, they have committed more than $20 million to Duke.
The Brooks have two sons, Matt and Steven. Matt, who graduated from Duke in 2004, earned four varsity letters as a member of the football team. In 2009, he received an MBA and a JD from Duke.
