What do you enjoy most about playing tennis?
Ellyse Hamlin: I love being in the third set with everything on the line and putting all my trust in my game and just going for it. The feeling of playing a match and giving everything you have that day, win or lose, is the most satisfying feeling I could ask for.
What is your greatest memory from playing tennis?
EH: Tennis has provided me with many amazing memories, but one of my favorites would have to be having my great-grandpa, Fran, come to my tournaments in Longmeadow, Mass., where he lived and where my dad grew up. I always remember him coming, watching and being so proud. We would always go to Friendly's afterwards and talk about my matches. He had been coming to my matches ever since I was 12. He passed away in 2014, and he will always be my biggest fan.
What are you most looking forward to when you arrive on campus at Duke?
EH: I am looking forward to being on a team, and not only on a tennis team, but the Duke team. I am very excited about representing the school and being a part of this tight-knit community.
Who has had the greatest influence on your game?
EH: My dad has had the most influence on my game. I have spent 10 years with him on and off the court and we have the greatest relationship because of it.
What is something interesting about you that people may not know?
EH: I lived in England for six years when I was younger. I had an English accent until I moved back.
