CINCINNATI – Former Duke linebacker and current Cincinnati Bengal Vincent Rey has teamed up with the Cincinnati-based Aruna Project to help fight sex trafficking. Saturday, the organization held its seventh annual Cincinnati Aruna Run for Their Freedom, a 5K along the banks of the Ohio River.
Rey and his wife, Noel, were the co-chairs of the event and are on the Aruna Project board. Following the race, the two handed out gifts to the team and individual who raised the most money for freedom as well as awards for the Overall Winner, Top Male finisher, Top Female finisher and male and female winners of nine age categories.
Money from the entry fee and additional sponsorship was used to benefit the Aruna Project, an international human rights organization focused on bringing and sustaining freedom to the sexually enslaved in South Asia through employment marked by holistic care.
Each participant in Saturday's race was assigned to run for a specific woman that members of the Aruna Project staff knew.
"The women in Mumbai, India, southeast Asia, they're women who are enslaved," Rey said. "Some of them from the age of 12," Rey said. "There is something I could do about it, I could spread awareness."

Earlier this week, Rey wrote a blog for the Cincinnati Enquirer about the Cincinnati Aruna Run. You can read the entry here.
WCPO, an ABC affiliate, in Cincinnati offered a video preview of the event Saturday. The video feature can be found here.
