DURHAM, N.C. -- Duke freshman Jahlil Okafor was named to the Associated Press All-America Team Monday, his fourth All-America first team honor from a major outlet this season.
Okafor has also received First Team All-America honors from the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) and Sporting News. Okafor is Duke's 16th first team All-America and is the Blue Devils second freshman in as many years named to the first team, with Jabari Parker receiving the same honor last season.
The Chicago, Ill., native has helped guide the Blue Devils (33-4, 15-3) to the Final Four of this year's NCAA Tournament. Okafor leads the team in a number of categories, including points per game (17.5) and rebounds per game (8.7). Okafor is on pace to become just the 13th freshman in ACC history to lead his team in both categories. Okafor's 17.5 ppg. average currently ranks tied for second in the conference, while his 8.7 rpg. ranks fifth. Okafor also sits among the nation's leaders in field goal percentage (.668 – 2nd) and offensive rebounds per game (3.46 – 17th).
Rounding out the Associated Press All-America Team were Wisconsin's Frank Kaminsky, Notre Dame's Jerian Grant, Kentucky's Willie Cauley-Stein and Ohio State's D'Angelo Russell. Okafor received 64 first-team votes, just one behind Kaminsky.
