KANSAS CITY – Duke freshman Jahlil Okafor earned his third All-America honor of the season Monday after the 6-11 center was named an All-America First Team member by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). The NABC All-America Teams are selected and voted on by the nearly 5,000 coaches who comprise the organization.
Okafor is joined on the first team by Kentucky's Willie Cauley-Stein, Notre Dame's Jerian Grant, Wisconsin's Frank Kaminsky and Ohio State's D'Angelo Russell.
Already tabbed a first team All-American by Sporting News and the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA), Okafor looks to become just the 16th player to earn consensus first team All-America honors under Coach Krzyzewski. He would be the second Blue Devil to do so in as many years, after Jabari Parker accomplished the feat last season.
The Chicago, Ill., native has posted a tremendous freshman season that has helped the Blue Devils (33-4, 15-3) reach the Final Four of the NCAA Tournament. Okafor leads the team in a number of categories, including points per game (17.5) and rebounds per game (8.7). Okafor is on pace to become just the 13th freshman in ACC history to lead his team in both categories. Okafor's 17.5 ppg. average currently ranks tied for second in the conference, while his 8.7 rpg. ranks fifth. Okafor also sits among the nation's leaders in field goal percentage (.668 – 2nd) and offensive rebounds per game (3.46 – 17th).
Okafor and the Blue Devils are set to face seventh-seeded Michigan State Saturday, April 4, in Indianapolis, Ind. Tipoff is set for 6:09 p.m., with coverage on TBS.
