PALOS VERDES, Calif. – After turning in a five-over-par, 289, in round one Sunday, the fourth-ranked Duke women's golf team struggled through a windy second round with a 25-over, 309, Monday to drop to 10th overall with 18 holes remaining at the 6,017-yard, par 71 Palos Verdes Golf Club in Palos Verdes, Calif.
Leading for the second straight day was Baylor with a five-over, 570, with Southern California (579), Arizona State (584), Arizona (588), Florida (589), Oklahoma State (589), Washington (590), Alabama (593), Wake Forest (595) and Duke (598) rounding out the top 10.
Sophomore Sandy Choi turned in the Duke's best round of the day with a two-over-par, 73, and is tied 10th overall with a 36-hole total of 144 with Tuesday's final round remaining. A native of Seoul, South Korea, Choi collected two birdies on the day, one each on the front and back nine. She hit 13 fairways, eight greens and had 28 putts on the day.
Celine Boutier, who is a junior from Montrouge, France, was held without a birdie and turned in a 77 Tuesday. She is tied 35th overall with a 151. Boutier had four bogeys on the front nine and two on the back.
Freshman Gurbani Singh registered a 78 Monday, while Duke twins Leona and Lisa Maguire carded rounds of 81 and 82. Playing as an individual, junior Yi Xiao fired a six-over-, 77. Xiao hit seven fairways, 13 greens and had 33 putts in Monday's round.
Leading the tournament is UCLA's Bronte Law (137) and Baylor's Hayley Davis (137) with a five-under-par ledger.
Duke will tee off beginning at 11:30 a.m. (ET) Tuesday in the final round with a shotgun start along with Wake Forest, UNLV and UCLA.
