DURHAM, N.C. – Head coach Chris Pollard and the Duke baseball program are excited to announce the signing on 6-1 outfielder Chase Cheek to a National Letter of Intent. Cheek is currently a senior at Dr. Phillips High School in Orlando, Fl., and is set to join the Blue Devils in the fall of 2016.
An extremely talented defensive outfielder, Cheek boasts elite level speed, running a 6.4 60 at the Perfect Game national event.
“Chase Cheek is one of the top two or three fastest players in the country,” Pollard said. “He has really electrifying speed and is the fastest player I've ever recruited. He's a really accomplished base stealer and has incredible range in center field.”
No stranger to the big stage, Cheek has played at Perfect Game national events in addition to competing with one of the top travel organization in the country, the Orlando Scorpions. Perfect Game rates Cheek the No. 131 overall prospect in the 2016 class as well as the No. 18 outfielder in the country. Cheek is also ranked the 23rd best prospect in the state of the Florida.
A three-year letterwinner at Dr. Phillips, Cheek garnered 2014 All-Metro Conference accolades. He was tabbed to the Perfect Game 2015 Underclass second team and was named Perfect Game 2014 Underclass High Honorable Mention.
