DURHAM, N.C. - For the second consecutive season, the Duke men's basketball program welcomes the nation's top-ranked recruiting class to campus. In the second installment of this season's Freshman Focus, go in-depth with agressive, up-tempo guard Derryck Thornton.
Orginially considered one of the nation's top players in the Class of 2016, Thornton and his family made the decision to have him graduate high school early and join the Blue Devils for the upcoming campaign. The reclassification had little effect on Thornton's stock as an impact player, as he was ranked the No. 17 overall recruit - and the No. 3 point guard - in the 2015 class after the decision.
The Chatsworth, Calif., native averaged 17.0 points and 6.2 assists as a junior at Findlay Prep in 2014-15, leading the Pilots to a 29-3 record and an appearance in the semifinals of the DICK's Sporting Good High School Nationals tournament.
In 2013-14, Thornton was a member of the United States Men's Basketball Developmental National Team.
In this Blue Devil Network exclusive, hear from Thornton on his decision to reclassify, his first few months as a Duke student-athlete and a variety of other topics.
