DURHAM, N.C. – Duke volleyball junior outside hitter Emily Sklar was named the 2015 Jay Fiedler Outstanding College Athlete of the Year as announced by the Jewish Heritage Association.
Sklar averaged 4.27 kills per set to lead the Blue Devils, knocking down 10 or more kills 24 times during the 2014 campaign. An All-ACC and All-East Coast Region selection, the San Jose, Calif., native registered career highs in kills (436), aces (29) and digs (282) while her .257 hitting percentage was also a career best. With 1,160 career kills to her credit, Sklar enters her senior season ranked 15th in program history.
The Jay Fiedler Outstanding College Athlete of the Year Award is named to honor Dartmouth graduate and former NFL quarterback Jay Fielder. The Jewish Sports Heritage Association awards will be announced in the spring issue of the Jewish Sports Heritage magazine.
