DURHAM, N.C. -- The Duke women's tennis team sends four individuals to Princeton, N.J., for the four-day Princeton Invitational, which is set for Thursday, Oct. 2, through Sunday, Oct. 5. The event, run in a hidden-dual format, will take place at the Lenz Tennis Center.
In addition to Duke, South Carolina, Boston College, Columbia, Princeton and Penn are also slated to attend the event.
The Blue Devils open competition Friday morning with doubles against Boston College at 10 a.m. Duke returns to action Friday at 11 a.m., with singles against Columbia, before concluding its first-day slate with singles against Princeton scheduled for 3 p.m. Duke resumes play Saturday, facing Columbia in doubles at 10 a.m., followed by singles against Penn at 11 a.m. On Sunday, the final day of competition, the Blue Devils take the courts against Princeton at 9 a.m. and Penn at 10 a.m. for some early morning doubles action. Duke closes the event with a singles match against Boston College at 11 a.m.
Duke's four-competitor contingent includes redshirt senior Rachel Kahan, senior Annie Mulholland, and freshmen Rebecca Smaller and Samantha Harris.
The Princeton Invitational serves as the season opener for Mulholland, who did not participate in the Duke Fab Four Invitational or the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships earlier this season. Kahan, Smaller and Harris have all seen competition during the fall of 2014. Harris saw the first action of her college career at the Duke Fab Four Invitational, where the Melbourne, Australia, native recorded a mark of 3-1. Smaller is also prepared for the second event of her collegiate career after opening with the Duke Fab Four Invitational, while Kahan most recently competed at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships last weekend.
