NOTES - Duke 80, Wisconsin 70
As a Team:
• Duke earned its eighth win of the year, marking the 24th time in program history the Blue Devils opened the season with eight straight wins.
• Duke moved to 2-1 when facing Wisconsin and 189-89 against Big Ten opposition.
• Duke improved to 65-13 all-time when ranked No. 4 in the AP Poll.
• Duke scored 80+ points against the Badgers for the second time in the series' history. Duke has scored over 80 points in each of its two wins over Wisconsin.
• Duke won by double figures for the eighth straight game, marking the first time since the 2002-03 campaign the Blue Devils opened a season with eight double-figure wins.
Closing on 1K:
• With the win, Coach K improved to 991-306 all-time and 918-247 at Duke. He is nine wins shy of becoming the first Division I men's coach in NCAA history to record 1,000 career victories.
• Wednesday's win moved Coach K's record in top-five matchups to 25-13, including 6-6 on the road.
Cook on Duke's All-Time Charts:
• Quinn Cook scored double-digit points for the eighth game this season and the 54th time in his career, netting 13 points on 4-of-5 (.800) shooting. Cook moves into a tie for 53rd on Duke's all-time scorers list with 1,095 points.
• Cook posted one assist against Wisconsin to bring his career assists total to 435. Cook remains in 12th on Duke's all-time assists list and five shy of matching Jon Scheyer's 440 for 11th place.
On the Offensive End:
• Duke has trailed just 4:54 through the first eight games of the season. The Blue Devils largest deficit they have faced this year is four points – 6-2 vs. Wisconsin.
• Duke shot 30-of-46 (.652) from the field, marking the seventh time this season the Blue Devils shot over 50.0 percent as a team. It marked the first time a team shot over 60 percent against Wisconsin in the 18-year history of the Kohl Center.
• Duke's 65 percent from the field is the highest a Wisconsin opponent has shot against the Badgers this season with Wisconsin holding teams to 37.1 percent from the field prior to tonight ... it was also the third-highest field goal percentage against an AP top-5 team in the 15 years and the highest by any team on the road
• Duke posted 32 points in the paint against Wisconsin. The Blue Devils have posted more points in the paint than its opposition in seven of the team's eight games this year.
• The 80 points by the Blue Devils are the most allowed by Wisconsin this season and the most since Michigan State scored 83 March 15, 2014.
Fast Starts:
• Duke has led at halftime in all eight of its games and has outscored teams in the first half by an average of 15.5 points a game this season.
• Duke is shooting a combined 133-of-245 (.543) from the field in the first half of games this year.
Devilish Defense:
• Tonight's contest marked just the third game of the season that an opponent connected on five or more three pointers. Opponents are averaging just 4.25 made three-point field goals a game while facing Duke, compared to the Blue Devils' 8.75 made three-pointers.
• Duke held Wisconsin to just 40.7 percent shooting from the field, the lowest for the Badgers this season. Prior to tonight Wisconsin had connected on at least 50 percent of its shots in four of its seven games.
• The Blue Devils held Wisconsin to just nine second-half field goals, marking the third time Duke has held an opponent to fewer than 10 field goals in the second half.
Fresh Faces:
• For the eighth straight game, three freshmen (Tyus Jones, Jahlil Okafor and Justise Winslow) started, marking the first time since 1983 (Stetson-Feb. 16; Wake Forest-Feb. 19; Maryland-Feb.21; NC State-Feb.23; Georgia Tech-Feb. 26; Clemson-March 2; North Carolina-March 5; Virginia-March 11) that three or more freshmen started eight consecutive games in the Coach K era.
• Wednesday's game marked the 43rd time during the Coach K era three freshmen started. In 1982-83, three or more freshmen started 27 games, the highest number of games with three or more freshmen starting under Coach K.
• Two or more Duke freshmen scored double digits in a game for the seventh time this season (Jones-22, Okafor-13).
• Tyus Jones recorded a career-high 22 points on 7-of-11 shooting in a career-high 37 minutes of action. The seven field goals made by Jones are a career-high for the rookie.
• With 22 points tonight Jones joins Okafor as the lone two Blue Devils to record 20-plus point games this season.
