DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke women's tennis team concluded the Kitty Harrison Invitational on a high note Sunday morning, posting a perfect 4-0 singles record and adding a doubles victory against NC State.
The doubles team of junior Beatrice Capra and freshman Samantha Harris set the tone for the Blue Devils, opening competition by outlasting the tandem of Sophie Nelson and Liza Fieldsend, 3-6, 6-2, 1-0. The duo of Capra and Harris moved to 2-0 on the season with the victory, with the pair's first win of the season coming earlier in the weekend.
In singles, senior Ester Goldfeld improved to 3-0 over the weekend, and 9-5 for the fall, with a convincing 6-1, 6-3 win over Joanna Nalborska.
Freshman Christina Makarova earned her second singles win of the fall on Sunday morning, defeating Tayla Stenta, 6-4, 6-2. Makarova now sits at 2-1 in singles play for her college career.
Senior Annie Mulholland and sophomore Alyssa Smith also posted victories in their respective singles matches. Mulholland dropped Elisha Hande with a 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 win, while Smith bypassed Jannwicz, 6-3, 3-6, 1-0. With the result, Mulholland moved to 5-3 this season and Smith moved to 5-6.
The Blue Devils remain off from competition until Jan. 7, when Duke makes the trip to Maui, Hawaii for the Hidden Duals.
