GoDuke.com: What has been your favorite place to travel with tennis?
Jason Tahir: My favorite place to travel with tennis was probably Athens, Georgia for the NCAAs.
GoDuke.com: What's a road trip memory that you'll always have with you?
JT: When we were going to [Coach] Ramsey's house for Spring Break and we were on a sleeper bus, and the guys forgot me on the bus because I was sleeping. So that was interesting.
GoDuke.com: What is one lesson playing tennis has taught you that you can use for the rest of your life?
JT: The importance of overcoming adversity and learning from your mistakes, and trying to just improve as a person and a player.
GoDuke.com: What has been your proudest academic achievement at Duke?
JT: Last year, when I got the ITA Scholar-Athlete award. I know the team had a really successful year in the classroom, so that was good.
GoDuke.com: What's special about being a Duke tennis player?
JT: Being able to hopefully represent Duke in a positive way around the country. Whenever I get to wear Duke tennis gear, I feel proud and I feel like I'm representing the Duke image and all that means, in prestige, honor and excellence.
GoDuke.com: What are your three favorite restaurants in the Durham area?
JT: International Delights, Nana Taco, and Watts Grocery.
GoDuke.com: What will you miss the most? In tennis? On campus? In Durham?
JT: In tennis, I'm going to miss being on a team and competing as a team. American sports are all team sports, and obviously growing up here tennis was very individual. Playing tennis in a team format has been awesome, and hopefully I'll have some good memories from this year. On campus, just being surrounded by so many excellent people, and people who are so successful in sports, academics, other extra-curriculars; it's amazing to be a Duke student in general. In Durham, I'll miss being in the South. I'm from New York, and it's definitely a lot different here. It's been a good experience to get a look at a different part of the country.
GoDuke.com: What is a good Coach Ramsey Smith story that nobody knows?
JT: I challenged him to the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, and it took him a while to do it. And then he did it, but he didn't release it over social media. So we should get that in print to make sure he releases it.
