
Duke Wins Two Friday At ITA All-American Main Draw

TULSA, Okla. – Duke had three competitors in action Friday at the ITA All-American Championship and came away with two victories. Freshman Nicolas Alvarez marched on within the main draw and advanced to the round of 16 with an upset of the event's No. 5 seed, Jared Hiltzik of Illinois.
In consolation bracket action, junior Bruno Semenzato moved to the second round with a triumph. Senior Jason Tahir bowed out of the consolation bracket with a defeat.
Alvarez kept the Blue Devils alive in the main draw with a comeback upset against Hiltzik. Alvarez dropped the first set 6-2, but edged out Hiltzik in the second set 7-5. He completed the victory with a 6-4 triumph in the deciding third set. Alvarez will face South Florida's Roberto Cid in the round of 16 on Saturday. If Alvarez defeats Cid Saturday, he'll play again Saturday for a trip to the semifinals.
Semenzato was in action in the consolation bracket and took on Memphis' Connor Glennon. Semenzato's match went much the same was as Alverez's. Semenzato dropped a tight first set 6-7 (5), but came back in the next set to earn a 7-5 victory. He then cruised through the decisive third set, winning 6-0 to take the match. Semenzato will face Tennessee's Hunter Reese in the second round of the consolation bracket on Saturday. If Semenzato wins his first match Saturday, he'll play again for a spot in the consolation bracket final four.
Tahir saw his trip to Tulsa come to an end with a 6-4, 6-2 setback to Tennessee's Mikelis Libietis in the consolation bracket.
