DURHAM, N.C. - Spearheaded by a Homecoming game against Memphis on September 22 and its year-long celebration of the Blue Devils' 100th season of football, the Duke marketing office announced on Wednesday the release of its 2012 promotional schedule.
As the 2012 campaign marks the 100th of Duke football, the Blue Devils will celebrate the landmark season throughout the home schedule. Highlighting the season-long celebration will be Duke's Homecoming game against Memphis, and the game versus the Tigers also will mark Band Day, with regional high school bands garnering invitations to play alongside the Duke University Marching Band, as well as Scout Day, with local boy scouts and girl scouts receiving discounts on purchased tickets.
In the season-opener - a September 1 tilt against FIU - the Blue Devils will hold its annual Duke HR Employee Celebration with all Duke employees receiving four complimentary tickets along with a pregame tailgate party. In addition, staff members will be afforded the opportunity to buy additional tickets at a reduced rate.
On September 15, Duke will host N.C. Central in the second Bull City Gridiron Classic, with the Greater Durham Chamber of Commerce serving as the game's title sponsor. The game against the Eagles also will mark Youth Day, where a pregame event will headline the festivities, and Junior Blue Devil Club Day, with members receiving one complimentary ticket and the chance to purchase additional admissions at a discounted cost.
Duke's fourth home game of the year, a visit to Wallace Wade Stadium by Virginia on October 6, is featured by Military Appreciation Day, Hispanic Heritage Day, Youth Football Team Day and Iron Dukes Day. This season, Duke will unveil its Salute-A-Soldier program for Military Appreciation Day, where individuals, families, or businesses can purchase discounted tickets to donate to active, guard, reserve, and retired Military personnel. For every ticket donated, Duke will match the donation, ticket-for-ticket. All youth football teams will have the opportunity to buy reduced cost tickets as well. To recognize the contributions of members of the Iron Dukes, Duke will honor its benefactors with a pregame tailgate celebration.
The Blue Devils' annual game with chief rival North Carolina, a meeting slated for October 20, will be headlined by Cheer Day and Breast Cancer Awareness Day. Similar to the annual Band Day, cheerleading squads from regional middle and high schools will be invited to participate.
On November 3, Clemson will visit Wallace Wade Stadium for Education Day and Hometown Heroes Day. At this game, Duke will reward local elementary and middle school students for classroom success while honoring local representatives from area police, fire and EMS stations. The Blue Devils' final home contest lands on November 24 versus Miami, and Duke will invite all summer campers from across the department's athletic programs to purchase tickets at a discounted price.
