Duke 74, Florida State 66
Team Notes:
• Duke improved to 31-8 against Florida State in a series that began in 1955. Duke had lost the previous two meetings, including the 76-73 buzzer-beating loss to the Seminoles on Jan. 21 in Cameron Indoor Stadium.
• Duke won its seventh straight ACC road game. During the Blue Devils' 58-year tenure in the ACC, they have started 7-0 in ACC road games just four times. The last time Duke started 7-0 in league road games was in 2005-06. Duke finished a perfect 8-0 in ACC road games in 1998-99 and 1999-2000.
• Duke improved to 5-1 this season against ranked teams. The Blue Devils have wins over No. 5 North Carolina, No. 14 Kansas, No. 15 Michigan, No. 15 Florida State and No. 16 Virginia. Duke's only ranked loss came on the road against No. 2 Ohio State.
• Duke has hit at least eight three-pointers in all seven February games after going 13-of-28 from beyond the arc tonight against Florida State. The Blue Devils average 10.1 three-pointers per game during that span.
• The Seminoles had allowed no more than 11 three-pointers in a game all season until Duke hit 13 tonight. Florida State entered the game with the 14th-best three-point field goal defense in the nation by holding opponents to a .291 three-point shooting percentage. Duke shot .464 (13-of-28) from beyond the arc for the highest mark of any Florida State opponent this season.
• The Blue Devils have hit at least 10 three-pointers in 10 games this season and three times in February. Duke is 9-1 when hitting at least 10 three-pointers in a game.
• With
Andre Dawkins leading the team with 22 points and
Austin Rivers scoring 20 points, Duke has had a 20-point scorer in seven consecutive trips to Tallahassee, Fla.
• Dawkins keyed a 14-4 run in the first half by scoring 12 points on three straight three-pointers. He was also fouled on another three-point attempt and sank all three free throws during the rally. He finished with 18 points in the first half as Duke took a 39-32 lead into the break.
• Duke went into the half with the lead for the 20th time in 28 games. Duke is 19-1 in those games with the only loss coming in the first meeting against Florida State on Jan. 21 in Cameron Indoor Stadium.
• Dawkins and Rivers combined to hit 10 three-pointers and score 42 of Duke's 74 points for 56.8 percent of the team total.
• Florida State fouled Duke on three separate three-point attempts in the first half. Dawkins went on to hit 4-of-6 free throws on two of those fouls while
Ryan Kelly made his three-pointer and hit the free throw for a four-point play.
• Duke outscored Florida State 39-12 from beyond the arc. Florida State hit just four treys as Duke continued to display improved perimeter defense. Over the last 12 games, Duke is holding opponents to a .277 shooting percentage from three-point range.
Player Notes:
Seth Curry
• Curry, who entered the game averaging 20.0 points over his last five games, did not score until 6:56 remained in the second half. He proceeded to score all seven of his points during the final seven minutes to help propel Duke to the win. Curry hit a three-pointer with 3:58 remaining to increase Duke's lead to 64-58, then picked off a loose ball, was fouled and sank both free throws to bump the lead to eight points.
Andre Dawkins
• Knocked down six three-pointers on the way to 22 points. It was Dawkins' fourth 20-point game of the season and his fourth game with at least five made three-pointers. Dawkins leads Duke with 89 three-pointers on the season and leads the ACC with a .422 three-point percentage (65-of-164).
• Hit his first three three-pointers on the way to 18 first-half points.
• Made three-pointers on back-to-back possessions twice in the first half. His second set of back-to-back treys increased a seven-point lead to a 13-point lead in a span of 26 seconds with less than three minutes remaining.
• Hit a three-pointer in the 14th consecutive game. Dawkins has hit a three-pointer in 25 of Duke's 28 games and in 55 of Duke's last 65 games.
Ryan Kelly
• Scored in double figures for the 17th time this season, the third most on the team. Kelly sank 3-of-6 shots, including a pair of three-pointers, and hit all five free throws. Kelly is shooting 80.8 percent from the free throw line, 41.2 percent from three-point range and 45.3 percent from the floor.
• Sank a key three-pointer with 4:30 remaining in the game to temporarily increase Duke's lead from three points to six points at 61-55.
• Converted his second four-point play of the season when he was fouled on a made three-pointer in the first half and then made the ensuing free throw.
• Took his team-leading 10th charge of the season. Kelly has taken 33 charges during his first three seasons at Duke.
Miles Plumlee
• Was Duke's leading rebounder for the third time in the last four games. Either Miles or his brother
Mason Plumlee has led Duke in rebounding in 26 of Duke's 29 games.
• Since grabbing his Coach K-era record 22 rebounds against Maryland on Feb. 11, Plumlee is averaging 9.0 points and 11.5 rebounds per game during that four-game span.
• Scored six of Duke's first 11 points by hitting his first three shots, including a 10-foot jump hook and a putback dunk.
• Scored in double figures for the seventh time this season. Plumlee neared a double-double with eight rebounds, but fouled out with 1:08 remaining.
Austin Rivers
• Scored in double figures for the team-leading 24th time. Rivers leads all ACC freshmen in double-figure scoring games, 20-point games and total points per game.
• Finished with 20 points for his team-leading seventh 20-point game. Rivers has scored at least 20 points in three of Duke's seven February games.
• Finished as Duke's assists leader for the team-leading ninth time this season.
• Hit four three-pointers, giving him multiple treys in the fifth straight game. Rivers has hit at least three three-pointers five times this season.
• Despite suffering an ankle injury in the second half, Rivers still played 37 of a possible 40 minutes. He leads Duke and ranks among the top 10 in the ACC with an average of 32.7 minutes per game. He has played at least 30 minutes in 11 consecutive games.
