RALEIGH, N.C.-A selection of Duke wrestlers made the short trip to Raleigh to compete in the annual Wolfpack Open Sunday. The group of four competed unattached in the event, going 8-8 overall for the day. Redshirt sophomore Immanuel Kerr-Brown led the way with an eighth-place finish at 157 pounds.
Kerr-Brown placed for the second straight tournament after taking sixth at the Hokie Open to start the season. After opening with a loss to Virginia's Blaise Butler, Kerr-Brown rebounded with three consecutive wins, including a 16-6 major decision over Shohei Takagi of George Mason. Looking for a berth in the fifth-place match, the Georgia native fell to Chase Cuthbertston to send him to the seventh-place match instead. Austin Trott from Gardner-Webb and Kerr-Brown did not compete as both finished eighth in the bracket.
Finishing with 2-2 overall records for the day were Michael Wright and Brian Dorsey in the 165-pound division. Wright and Dorsey both opened the day with victories, including a first-period pin by Dorsey. The duo both fell in its second matches before going 1-1 in the consolation bracket to end the day.
Ian Snyder also competed in the event, going 1-2 at 133 pounds. His win came against Michael Gowen of Virginia Tech, an 11-2 major decision.
