DURHAM, N.C. – The often imitated but never duplicated Duke University student section – The Cameron Crazies -- has been nominated for the Naismith Student Section of the Year Award. The Naismith Student Section of the Year Award, which is presented through a partnership of The Collegiate Licensing Company (CLC), a division of IMG College, and the Atlanta Tipoff Club, administrators of the Naismith Awards, is dedicated to celebrating fans that love college hoops and provide support to their college basketball team with devotion and passion.
“The Cameron Crazies are the best fans in college basketball and it is an awesome experience to play in front of them,” said Duke junior
Mason Plumlee. “Our crowd give us a tremendous home court advantage and they deserve some recognition. All of our fans need to visit the I Love College Hoops Facebook page, and vote for the Cameron Crazies.”
Nearly 80 schools representing 21 conferences are vying for the title. The Big East and Big Ten Conferences have the most schools participating followed closely by the ACC and Big 12. Participation also includes athletic conferences ranging from Conference USA and the Pac-12 to the Big Sky, the MAC, and Southland.
The Naismith Student Section of the Year Award will be determined through two rounds of public votes, combined with a scoring of finalists by the Naismith Awards Board of Selectors, which will review criteria such as the student section's name and attendance, as well as photos, video, and a write-up submitted by the nominating school. Complete details on the selection process can be found at

The winning student section gets bragging rights, while the winning school will receive $5,000 for its athletic association.
The Cameron Crazies
The gameday experience at Duke the most unique in the country. Sellout crowds are the rule at Cameron Indoor Stadium, not the exception. Fueled by the famous Cameron Crazies, the atmosphere in Cameron Indoor Stadium is filled with excitement and unmatched spirit.
The Cameron Crazies are the most innovative, passionate and sometimes intimidating fans in all of sports. They are often copies, but never matched. The Duke student section – both graduate and undergraduate – that surrounds the lower bowl of the arena is a spectacle itself.
Lines form early for entrance into a game, which is one of the toughest tickets in college athletics. For many years, the Crazies have taken in to another level. Nowhere else in college basketball will over 1,000 students brave the elements for weeks at a time in a tent city erected outside of Cameron Indoor Stadium known as Krzyzewskiville – just to get a better seat at a Blue Devil game.
